Beyond supporting and managing cables, our products have a duty to protect them. Compliance with safety regulations and standards is therefore essential to ensure their quality.

The importance of safety in cable management systems: regulations and standards

In any environment where cable management systems and underfloor systems are used, safety is a top priority. More than just supporting and managing cables, our products have a duty to protect them, ensuring their integrity and preventing risks of damage or failure. Therefore, complying with safety regulations and standards is essential to ensure a quality product and a safe and reliable working environment.

Regulations and standards related to our systems often address various aspects such as structural strength, fire protection, corrosion resistance, load carrying capacity, suitability for specific environments (such as wet or corrosive environments), and proper installation. In many countries there are specific regulations governing the installation and use of cable support systems according to recognised international standards, such as those set by the German Institute for Standardisation (DIN).

These standards specify technical requirements, test procedures, measurement methods and other relevant aspects to guarantee the quality, safety and compatibility of our services.  Here are some of the standards we apply at PUK Portacables to ensure that our products meet the highest standards of safety and quality.

  • DIN VDE 0620-1: It sets out the requirements that commonly used sockets must follow to ensure electrical safety and device compatibility. It addresses technical aspects such as the design of the sockets, how much electrical load they can withstand and how to protect them against short circuits and other problems. This certification ensures the proper functioning of our materials in a variety of environments, from homes to large commercial and industrial facilities.
  • DIN EN 61537: It ensures that cable support systems can safely support the weight of cables and other electrical equipment. This is achieved by specifying what requirements must be met and how cable trays and ladder trays, which are the structures where cables are placed and secured, must be tested. Essentially, these standards ensure that our systems are strong and safe enough to hold all cables in place without risk of falling.
  • DIN 4102-12: This refers to the fire behaviour of building elements and materials. In other words, it certifies the flame resistance of the entire electrical wiring system, which ensures that the electrical circuit remains intact in the event of a fire. At PUK we offer all the necessary parts to configure fire protection cable tray systems even in the most extreme environments, such as industrial plants with high temperatures or underground environments where fire resistance is crucial.
  • DIN EN 50085-1: It defines the rules that the conduits used in electrical and telecommunications installations must follow. It focuses on aspects such as the exact size of the conduits, the resistance they must have and how they have to be tested to ensure their correct operation.
  • DIN 51130: Determines the standards and characteristics of slip-resistant floor coverings for footwear traffic areas. It is used to classify anti-slip properties of floor coverings. To ensure maximum safety, our floor channel covers comply with a slip resistance level called R12 according to this standard.
  • DIN EN 10346: It specifies what characteristics cold coated and hot-dip galvanised steel sheets used in cable support systems must have. Basically, it sets out the qualities that these materials must have to ensure that they are durable and resistant in different situations. This includes mechanical aspects such as tensile strength, precise dimensions for a good fit and surface finishes that protect against wear and tear.

These regulations and standards are not only a matter of legal compliance, but also guarantee the safety of workers, the protection of the infrastructure and the prevention of possible accidents. Therefore, at PUK Portacables we make sure to provide our customers with products that meet all these guarantees, thus offering safe and reliable solutions.
